Logitech X56 Stick Extension: The Complete Guide

11/07/2026

The stick extension is one of the most popular mods for the Logitech X56 (and the Saitek X55). The idea is simple: extend the joystick shaft by 10 to 20 cm. The result is dramatic in terms of precision.

Why extend the shaft?

A longer shaft increases leverage: for the same wrist rotation, the sensor reads a finer movement. In practice, you gain precision on small adjustments — aiming, approach, delicate landing — without sacrificing range. It's especially valued in space sims, where every degree counts.

The different approaches

Two main options. Commercial extensions, ready to fit, offer a clean finish and guaranteed compatibility. 3D-printed extensions, very common in the community, let you pick your length and angle at low cost, but take a bit of DIY. Either way, the extension sits between the stick base and the grip.

Precautions to know

A longer shaft increases the torque on the original springs: the stick can feel softer. That's why an extension often pairs with a spring mod to restore a pleasant resistance. Also check the mount's sturdiness: a wobbly fit adds play, which defeats the purpose. Finally, any physical modification may void the warranty.

Personalise while you're at it
