Build a Complete Star Citizen Cockpit: The Step-by-Step Guide

12/07/2026

A real Star Citizen cockpit isn't reserved for $5,000 setups. By working in stages, anyone can build an immersive pilot station at their own pace and budget. Here's the roadmap.

Step 1: flight controls

The heart of the cockpit: a HOTAS or HOSAS (see our HOTAS vs HOSAS comparison and our 2026 best HOTAS guide). It's the priority investment: it's what transforms the flying. Mount it solidly (desk or stand) for maximum precision.

Step 2: control panels

This is where a setup becomes a cockpit. A Star Citizen ship means dozens of systems: moving them to physical switches changes everything. Our General Systems panel covers ship management (power, shields, gear, doors…), the Targeting panel handles combat targeting, and the Mining panel optimises mining. Plug & play, backlit, made in France — add them one by one to match your activities.

Step 3: personalisation

Custom plates on your peripherals display in-game controls right on the hardware: no more sticky notes or memory lapses. And MFD backlighting adds the finishing touch for night sessions.

Step 4: the environment

To go further: a proper seat (bucket or chair with mounts), a second screen or tablet for MFDs, a head tracker to look around, and clean cable management. Each element adds a layer of immersion.

Final word

The secret of a good cockpit: progressiveness. Start with the HOTAS, add one panel, then a second… Each step immediately improves your experience, without ever demanding a big budget all at once. See you in the 'verse!
